Boyd Angen

Boyd Angen, 82 of Hibbing died at Fairview University Medical Center – Mesabi on Friday, May 7, 2010 after a long battle with many health issues.

He was born to Cleve and Inez Angen on the home farm near Garfield, MN on May 24, 1927.
At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was deployed to the Pacific Theater where he served as a motor machinist’s mate on an LST. At the end of the war, Boyd enrolled, with the help of the GI Bill, at the Mac Phail School of Music in Minneapolis.
 
He arrived in Hibbing in 1949. He was employed at the Hibbing Public Utilities for 35 years, first as an electrician and then as the lead instrument technician. After his retirement from the PUC, he worked at the Potlatch wood plant in Cook for nine years as their relief control room operator.
 
Boyd married Shirley Pederson at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hibbing on June 25, 1955. He became a member of the congregation in 1949, and served in many capacities. He was a member of the church choir for over 40 years, and he was the soloist at countless weddings, funerals, and church services.
 
Boyd enjoyed the outdoors and was happy when camping, hunting, or fishing. He also enjoyed woodcarving, especially the Norwegian-style Acanthus work. And he loved singing to the glory of God.
Boyd is survived by his wife: Shirley, son: David, daughter-in-law: Pamela, and grandson: Karl, all of whom he loved very much.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Elroy and Rolland; and his parents-in-law: Kenneth and Sophia Pederson.
 
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2010 in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hibbing. The Reverend Erik Holleque will officiate. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. until the 1:00 p.m. service at the Church. Interment will follow in the Hibbing Park – Maple Hill Cemetery.
