Betty Tamte Carlson
Betty Tamte Carlson, age 87 died Monday, April 5, 2010 in Edgewood Vista Senior Living Residence in Virginia. She was born October 25, 1922 in Virginia the daughter of Oscar and Florence (Helstrom) Tamte. She was a graduate of Virginia High School, Duluth Business University and Minnehaha Academy Business School. She married Herbert S. Carlson on October 24, 1946 in Virginia, and was a longtime Virginia resident. Betty and Herbert owned and operated the Wayside Motel and Sporting Goods, which was later called Lakeshor Motor Inn from 1954 until 1974. She was a member of the First Covenant Church in Virginia, and was an extraordinary seamstress and knitter.
Betty is survived by her children: Kent (Kathryn) Carlson of Mt. Iron and Betty Lou Zywicki of Carlton, MN; brothers: Jim (Caryl) Tamte of Britt and Ken (Mary Lou) Tamte of Florida; sister: Lois Johnson of Eveleth; grandchildren, Maren Carlson, Erik Carlson, Kristian Killian, Karin (Matt Welch) Killian, Kendal Killian, and Kassandra Killian; great-grandchildren, Malia Knobloch-Killian, Luella Killian-Welch, and Syrus Killian; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Herbert on April 5, 2008; and 5 brothers and sisters.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday April 8, 2010 at the First Covenant Church in Virginia. Pastor Roger Johnson will officiate. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.
