Ann Lucille Filson
Ann Lucille Filson, 91, of Ely died Monday September 27, 2010 at the Ely Bloomenson Community Hospital after a short illness, with her son and daughter at her side.
She was born on December 22, 1918 in Duluth, Minnesota to Frank and Maria Contardo. Ann was united in marriage to Oliver Filson on June 7, 1947, at St. Peter’s Church in Duluth and moved to Ely. She was a homemaker and charter member of the Ely Newcomers Club, organized in 1956. Ann belonged to the Ely Northern Lakes Art Association, member of the North American Benefit Association and a Red Cross volunteer at the local nursing home. She enjoyed summers with her husband on Burntside Lake. Ann was a 55 year breast cancer survivor at the time of her death. She was well known as a flamboyant dresser and dedicated walker.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Bruce (Joan) Filson of Lakeland, MN., their son Sean of Kansas City, MO., and their daughter, Rory of Stillwater, MN.; her daughter, Olivia (Larry) Roberts and their daughters, Adrienne and Lauren of Hacienda Heights, CA. and their son Hunter Hill of Newport Beach, CA.; brothers, Joe, Rocci, Leonardo and Frank Contardo; sisters, Carmel Nippet and Jean Ansbaugh.
She was preceded in death by her husband Oliver and sisters Frances Farrar, Josephine Brozic and Mary Guiliani.
Private family services will be held in November. Ann’s family would greatly appreciate memorials directed to Northwood Hospice Respite Partners, c/o Lisa Porthan, 328 W. Conan Street, Ely, MN. 55731. Arrangements were entrusted to Cron-Sheehy Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Eveleth.
